Decode KAVB with an SDR
KAVB: KAAL video link, 1-2 MHz wide (no video decoder in this build).

What KAVB is
KAVB: the video mode of the KAAL family, 1 to 2 MHz wide (700 to 1400 ksym/s single carrier, 16-QAM and 64-QAM with LDPC, a sweep signature, video, audio and data packets in FEC groups). Receive finds the frames and lists the packets with the link numbers and a constellation, counts the payload bytes and can save them to a file; there is no AV1 or Opus decoder in this build, so no picture or….
Frequencies and settings
OnAir takes any frequency you type; the numbers above are the mode's starting point and the range its table describes. In the app the shortcut label is KAVB, 1-2 MHz video.
What OnAir shows
KAVB: the video mode of the KAAL family, 1 to 2 MHz wide (700 to 1400 ksym/s single carrier, 16-QAM and 64-QAM with LDPC, a sweep signature, video, audio and data packets in FEC groups). Receive finds the frames and lists the packets with the link numbers and a constellation, counts the payload bytes and can save them to a file; there is no AV1 or Opus decoder in this build, so no picture or sound is shown. Transmit sends a file of bytes or a synthetic test stream, to a radio or an IQ file.
Limits and what it was checked with
Checked with generated signals and impairments; recordings of real signals welcome.
Which radio you need
Any radio that tunes this range works. An RTL-SDR covers roughly 24 MHz to 1.7 GHz, and every other radio in the radio guide reaches it too. Antenna height and a clear view of the transmitter matter most.

Questions about KAVB
Can I decode KAVB with an RTL-SDR?
Usually yes for narrowband signals, as an RTL-SDR tunes roughly 24 MHz to 1.7 GHz at up to about 2.4 Msps. Wide signals such as TV channels need a faster radio, and OnAir says next to the source what the selected radio can do.
Is it legal to receive KAVB?
These are OnAir's own signal formats, still in development. Receiving them is passive. Transmitting needs the Arm button and your licence settings; check the rules where you live.
Can I try KAVB in OnAir without a radio?
Yes. Most modes include a built-in synthetic test signal, so you can open the screen and try the controls before you own a radio.
